Neo founder Erik Zhang has unveiled a new initiative aimed at pushing the Neo blockchain closer to real-world use. The organization, called Neo Global Resources (NGR), is designed to bring together research, engineering, and business partnerships to support the long-term growth of the Neo ecosystem and the development of Neo 4.
In a statement announcing the launch, Zhang described NGR as a natural extension of Neo’s original mission: building decentralized technology that actually works in the real world. Rather than focusing only on experiments or theory, the new group is meant to help move ideas from research papers into working products and enterprise solutions.
At its core, NGR will act as a coordination hub. It plans to support research into blockchain and related technologies, help translate that research into practical engineering outcomes, and build partnerships with companies and institutions interested in using Neo-based solutions. The goal is to encourage real-world use cases across different industries, not just test projects that never leave the lab.
According to Zhang, NGR’s early work will closely follow the Neo 4 roadmap. In an interview with Neo News Today, he said the initial priorities include evolving the core protocol, improving scalability and performance, making life easier for developers, and building infrastructure that can support more advanced applications. Over time, the scope of research is expected to widen as new technical needs and application opportunities appear.
On the commercial side, NGR plans to work directly with industry partners, with a clear focus on deployments that can function in real business environments. Zhang emphasized that the organization wants to move beyond proof-of-concept projects and instead support practical implementations. NGR is also expected to open conversations with blockchain-focused investment institutions to explore the creation of ecosystem funds. These funds would aim to support sustainable growth and long-term engagement with the Neo platform, rather than short-term hype.
The team behind NGR will be globally distributed and made up of both former and current contributors from Neo Global Development, along with professionals who bring a mix of technical and business experience. This setup is meant to reflect Neo’s international community and ensure the organization can operate across regions and industries.
Interestingly, NGR will not launch with its own public-facing brand right away. There are no immediate plans for a separate website or social media channels. Zhang said this choice is intentional, as the team wants to avoid fragmenting the existing Neo community. For now, NGR will operate quietly in the background, supporting research, engineering, and partnerships under the broader Neo umbrella.
With Neo 4 positioned as a key step forward for the network, the creation of NGR signals a renewed push to turn Neo’s technical vision into practical, real-world adoption.
